Biography of Abraham M. Lurie, Founder

Abraham Luire was born November 21, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa. He served in the United States Army Infantry from 1943 to 1946 and was honorably discharged. 

Mr. Lurie's educational background combines the dual disciplines of law and accounting. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1948 and attended Loyola and UCLA law schools from 1952 to 1954. From 1948 to 1953 he was employed by the accounting firm of Touche, Niven and Company and later Leonard Jacobson and Company, CPA's.


He maintained an accounting practice as a sole practitioner for 4-years. From 1957 to 1964, in a dual practice as an Attorney/CPA, he started the accounting firm of Lurie and Skaug, later merging to form Braverman, Lurie & Company, CPA's.

Mr. Lurie's real estate activities started in 1964 with joint ventures on apartment complexes in the San Fernando Valley. Through 1968, Mr. Lurie, as General Partner, syndicated various existing projects, subsequently going into real estate development with limited partners.

In 1968 he began his investments in Marina del Rey, the largest man made small craft harbor in the world. Mr. Lurie formed Real Property Management, Inc. (RPM), and as Sole Owner, with wife Katherine, they were actively involved directing activities of the company. With over six hundred employees RPM became one of the largest single employers in Marina del Rey, and a leader in the Southern California Hospitality Industry.

Mr. Lurie's company, RPM, operated, managed and participated in the ownership of two shopping centers, three hotels, two apartment complexes, eleven hundred boat slips and dry boat storage, leases to three restaurants, one bank, three yacht clubs and ten boat dealers. Fox Plaza, a large community shopping center in El Paso, Texas, is a commercial property outside the Marina then owned and management by RPM.
